Make Your Own Cucumber Water

Say hello to cucumber water. It is officially my new favorite summer drink!

Cucumber water is not too sweet nor tart like the classic lemonade and other sugary beverages. Rather, it is less flavorful, absolutely refreshing and easy to make. I definitely prefer something fresh, less sweet and something that I can do on my own.

Aside from that, cucumbers are also nutritious. They contain vitamin C and caffeic acid, antioxidants that are responsible for protecting your skin from sun damage. So perfect for the summer! While vitamin C boosts collagen and elastin, which keeps your skin looking vibrant, caffeic acid provides protection to your skin from the harmful UV radiation. You will also benefit from its anti-inflammatory properties and its natural ability to help prevent water retention.

So, here are a couple of ways to prepare your cucumber water, although both need a bit of preparation time.

First Method
  • Blend up a cucumber and pour it through a very fine strainer (line a sieve with cheesecloth).

  • Let the concoction drip through in the fridge overnight.

  • Mix the resulting cucumber juice with a pitcher of water.

  • Adjust the proportions of the mixture depending on how strong you like it.

Second Method
  • Cut up a cucumber into small chunks covering in the amount of water you want to drink.

  • Let it soak in the fridge overnight.

  • Strain the mixture the following day and discard the cukes.

A couple of twists you can add to your cucumber water:
  • Blend in mint with the cucumber in the first method or chop the mint and let it soak with the chunks in the second method.

  • Add a squeeze of lime before serving or place a half lime in the concoction you are soaking overnight.

Thanks to that'sfit.ca for sharing this recipe. I especially love my cucumber water with a hint of mint flavor. Now there's something to make my summertime cool and fresh!
