Sugaring: Best Hair Removal Method

Summer presents great opportunity for many to show some skin. You're probably among those who can't wait to show off their new bikini. However, unwanted hair gets in the way for most women when trying to show some skin. That’s why many hair removal products are available in the market these days, as well as different hair removal techniques are being introduced. But, it is best to do it the natural way to avoid possible skin damage and health risks. Some of the popular natural methods are shaving, plucking, waxing and sugaring. I’ve tried all of them, but there’s only one that I became comfortable with – sugaring.
It is considered the oldest known natural method of hair removal since it began hundreds of years ago in ancient Egypt. Soap and deodorants were not yet invented during the time. So, to keep themselves fresh and clean, women of those times developed a sugar paste that will remove their pubic and underarm hairs. They were delighted with the results of this method that they began using it on other parts of their body.

Here are other facts why I prefer sugaring of all other hair removal methods:

  • It is made with 100% natural ingredients (sugar, water, lemon juice), environment-friendly and never been tested on animals.

  • It is gentle on the skin. It removes the hair gently from the roots without breaking and without bruising the skin.

  • It is suitable for all skin types because it does not contain any kind of chemical. It is also water soluble, therefore it doesn’t stick on anything moist, such as your healthy skin cells. However, it flicks off dry skin cells along with the hairs. Therefore, it leaves you with smooth, hydrated and glowing skin.

  • Re-growth is slower, finer, softer and lighter in color. It can also lead to diminished hair growth as it gradually weakens the hair follicle.

If you haven’t tried this before, you’re probably excited to do so by now. But before you go, here are a few things that you have to remember:

  • Do not use moisturizing creams and scented soap and deodorants 1 day before sugaring to get effective results from the sugar paste. Avoid using them too on the treated areas after sugaring treatment.

  • Avoid sugaring right after a bath or shower when the skin is too soft and sensitive.

  • Ensure that the sugar paste has cooled down before using to avoid burning your skin.

  • There may be redness and discomfort during your first sugaring treatment but this will diminish after the following treatments.

  • Do not stay too long under the sun after treatment to avoid skin irritation.

Now, here’s HOW to make the sugar wax/paste:

Ingredients:

* 2 cups sugar
* 1/4 cup water
* 1/4 cup lemon juice

Directions:

* Mix all the ingredients in a saucepan.
* Heat the mixture on a low flame. Make sure that it does not boil.
* As soon as the color of the mixture turns brown, take it off the stove and let it cool.

You can store the rest of the mixture in a jar. For future use, simply heat it using a microwave or stove.

How does it work?

  • Make sure your skin is clean. Prepare it by putting a bit of cornstarch or baby powder on the area you are about to treat.

  • Apply the sugar paste/wax on the skin with a popsicle stick, smooth side of a butter knife, or your finger in the direction of hair growth.

  • Pat a cloth or a paper strip onto the caramel and pull it off quickly in the opposite direction of the hair growth.

At this point, I won’t stop you anymore. Get it done and show ‘em how smooth and flawless your skin is!
