My husband and I went grocery shopping a few days ago and we passed by a booth that sells wheatgrass juice. I've heard about it before and all the good things that it can do for the body, so we decided to give it a try. Each of us had a 12 oz. wheatgrass shot with honey and I'd say, it didn't taste so bad. Although many say it tastes like grass that you chewed when you were young, to me it tasted pretty much like tea.Anyway, here are the different nutrients and health benefits you can get from drinking wheatgrass juice.
Wheatgrass CLEANSES
- The high chloropophyll content of a wheatgrass drink promotes haemoglobin production, therefore increasing the oxygen carrying capabilities of the blood. This leads to several health benefits such as blood cleansing, anemia and blood sugar disorder prevention, and pollutant and heavy-metal detoxification. It also improves the ability of your body to heal wounds. Wheatgrass roots are rich in an enzyme called P4D1, which has anti- inflammatory properties important for cellular repair.
- Its high fiber content improves bowel movement and prevents constipation.
- Loads of antioxidants present in wheatgrass helps to fight free radicals that cause cancer and rejuvenate aging skin cells.
Wheatgrass ALKALIZES
- Just like your vegetables, wheatgrass is also rich in alkaline minerals that are important in neutralizing acids from metabolism for you to maintain healthy teeth and bones, as well as build your immunity against illnesses.
- The chlorophyll in wheatgrass contains magnesium, which helps carry oxygen to the blood and neutralize acid production in the body.
- Once alkalinity is restored in the body, the blood flows smoothly leading to better blood circulation and better absorption of oxygen and nutrients in the bloodstream.
Wheatgrass NOURISHES
- Wheatgrass juice is a nutritious food that contains 13 vitamins, 10 minerals, 17 amino acids, chlorophyll and fiber important for the body to function efficiently.
- It is known for its abscisic acid content, which is responsible for preventing cancer formation and growth.
- Loaded with 100 types of enzymes, it improves digestion and metabolism.
- Wheatgrass is rich in amino acids that promote better body functions and muscle growth.
- It contains a certain amino acid called l-arginine, which helps in the relaxation of blood vessels, liver detoxification, wound healing, and treatment of sterility in men.

There you have it! If you'd like to try too, it is available in juice bars. You can have it pure or mixed with fruit or vegetable drinks. You can also buy it from health food stores. It is offered as fresh produce, tablet, frozen juice, or powder. As for me, I would want to drink some more once in a while. It would be like getting the same nutrition from a regular veggie meal.
