It is known to everyone that smoking is hazardous to our health. Yet, there are still many who just can't quit! I think, it is because they are not aware of the immediate benefits of quitting and they think that the dangers of continuous smoking seem too long until it happens. Well, here is the timeline about the immediate results beneficial to your body when you stop smoking now.

In 20 minutes, your body's blood pressure will drop back down to normal. Your pulse rate slows down. The temperature of your hands and feet increases.

After 8 hours, half of the carbon monoxide (toxic gas) levels present in your blood stream will be gone to be replaced by oxygen until it reaches its normal levels.

In 48 hours (2 days), the risk of having a heart attack have decreased as your system repairs itself.

In 72 hours (3 days), your bronchial tubes begin to relax and you will feel more energetic.

In 5 days, all traces of nicotine will have left your system.

After 1 week, you will notice that your sense of taste and smell have returned to normal.

After 2 weeks, your circulation will improve as your lungs begin to function better. You will find that walking and exercising becomes easier.

After the 3rd and following months, your phlegm production will decrease as your lungs recover the ability to clean itself. By then, you won’t find yourself coughing or wheezing as much.

In 1 year, the chance of having a heart attack  drops by half.

In 5 years, your risk of having a stroke decreases significantly, and will continue to decrease over time.

In 10 years, a decade of non-smoking will reduce your risk of lung cancer. There will also be a  decrease in your risk of ulcers and other cancers, including cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, pancreas, kidneys, and bladder.

After 15 years, your risk of coronary heart disease and heart attack will have returned to that of a non-smoker.

Here are also some significant effects of non-smoking that you can look forward to:
  • No more bad breath.
  • No more stains on your teeth, fingers, and fingernails as it slowly fades out.
  • No more nasty smoke smell from your hair, clothes, car, and furniture.
  • More overall energy and enthusiasm to let you enjoy life.
With all of these positive effects to your body and life, why would you keep on smoking, right? It's never too late to make a commitment and get the help you need to successfully break the habit of smoking.
